Portugal's first permanent green hydrogen refueling station, an innovative project by HyChem, is scheduled to open in March 2025. This groundbreaking station, located in Póvoa de Santa Iria, will cater to public transport buses, trucks, and private light vehicles, marking a major milestone in the country’s transition to clean energy.
The state-of-the-art station, supplied and installed by French firm HRS—Europe’s leading hydrogen refueling station manufacturer—will be capable of fueling up to six heavy vehicles and three light vehicles daily. This is the first step in HyChem’s plan to convert its fleet from fossil fuels to hydrogen power.
HyChem's refueling station will also be available to the public through a contractual arrangement. It will provide much-needed support to vehicle manufacturers who want to test hydrogen-powered models in the Portuguese market, where such infrastructure is currently lacking.
Manuel Gil Antunes, HyChem’s CEO, expressed his excitement: "As the leading green hydrogen producer in Portugal, we are proud to be pioneers in the mobility sector by launching this station, in collaboration with a top-tier manufacturer."
With this initiative, HyChem continues to position itself at the forefront of Portugal's clean energy transition, paving the way for a future powered by hydrogen.
