HyChem's H2Hub project, which aims to create a competence center for hydrogen production, will receive support from the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP) in the amount of 1.4 million euros.
The high potential of this project was recognized by the evaluating entities of the competition launched within the scope of the first Program to Support the Production of Renewable Hydrogen and other Renewable Gases, established by the RRP.
HyChem's application ranked third among the 25 approved applications (21 for green hydrogen projects and four for biogas), out of a total of 41 submitted.
HyChem was represented at the event by CEO Manuel Gil Antunes and Director Arlindo de Carvalho, who presented the general outline of the project.
Budgeted at 8.4 million euros, the project aims to create an industrial pilot plant and a platform for green hydrogen production technologies. It involves strengthening hydrogen production capacity by installing a biogas-fed steam reformer and an alkaline electrolyzer, as well as increasing high-pressure storage capacity in bottles.
The investment will allow for the injection of hydrogen into the natural gas network, through a compression station, connection piping and blending in Frielas, supplying the northern margin of the Lisbon metropolitan area, as well as opening up new perspectives for mobility.
